President Trump’s resolve to smash the narco-terror networks that poison American communities with fentanyl and violence is not just defensible; it is honorable, courageous, and long overdue. Striking their boats at sea and disrupting their operations is legitimate national defense, and the President deserves unwavering support for finally treating these traffickers like the enemy combatants they are.
But strength without restraint is no longer strength; it is excess.
If it is true that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a second strike for the explicit purpose of killing survivors aboard a sinking vessel, then an unforgivable line was crossed. Deliberately finishing off wounded or helpless men, even vicious narco-terrorists, is not warfare; it is execution. It violates the laws of armed conflict, stains the honor of our uniform, and hands our enemies propaganda they do not deserve.
America has a better way. Survivors should be taken alive, shackled, and delivered to Guantánamo Bay, where they belong: interrogated thoroughly, detained securely, and held accountable under the rule of law we fight to defend. That is how we remain the good guys while still crushing the bad ones.
The President’s mission is just and vital. If Secretary Hegseth betrayed that mission by issuing an unlawful order, he must answer for it, swiftly and publicly. Protecting the American people demands decisive force; preserving the American soul demands moral discipline.
Strength without restraint becomes dishonor. We can, and must, have both power and principle. Anything less is unworthy of the flag we serve.
